Welcome aboard, we hope you are ready for a fun packed, enriched curriculum!
In English we build upon the work our children did in Year 2 with our writing program called ‘Read to Write’ which links high-quality texts with writing. The books we are focusing on are: ‘The Iron Man’, ‘Fox’, ‘The Rhythm of the Rain’, ‘Jemmy Button’, ‘Egyptology’ and ‘Into the Forest’.
Reading is a priority. Alongside our new ‘STEPS TO READ’ program which helps to develop reading strategies and comprehension skills, we ask that our children read every night and record the pages they read on their reading logs. Please ensure that your child brings their home-school reading book and log to school every week.
In maths, we continue to teach through ‘Singapore Maths. A continued focus of Y3 is the children’s knowledge of their times tables. The best way to ensure these facts are thoroughly known by the children is through regular and consistent practice. All children have access to ‘TT Rock Stars’. We also enjoy daily ‘Fluent in Five’ lessons, which are speedy, daily additional maths lessons where crew members practice rapid recall of basic mental arithmetic.
A new and exciting curriculum for science and some foundation subjects has been introduced across the school and Year 3 learn about a whole host of wonderful and exciting topics.
PE- Crew members must come to school in the agreed school PE kit on a Tuesday and a Friday.
