Year 4 Crew
Are you ready for the exciting curriculum journey we have planned for Year 4?
The teaching staff are Mrs Christine Williams and Mr Jason Thomas. Our learning coach is Ms Marnie Shawcross.
In English we build upon the outstanding work our children did in Year 3 with our writing program called ‘Read to Write’ which links high-quality texts with writing. The books we are focusing on are: ‘Whale', ‘Leaf’, ‘Arthur and the Golden Rope’, ‘The Lost Happy Endings’,’ The Journey’ and ‘Manfish’.
Reading is a priority. Alongside our new ‘STEPS TO READ’ program which helps to develop reading strategies and comprehension skills, we ask that our children read every night and record the pages they read on their reading logs. Please ensure your child brings their home-school reading book and log to school every week.
In maths, we continue to teach through a mastery approach using ‘Maths No Problem'. A continued focus of Y4 is the children’s knowledge of their times tables. The best way to ensure these facts are thoroughly known by the children is through regular and consistent practice. All children have access to ‘TT Rock Stars’. Please do not hesitate to contact our staff if you need login details for your child. We also enjoy daily ‘Fluent in Five’ lessons, which are speedy, daily additional maths lessons where crew members practice rapid recall of basic mental arithmetic.
At the end of year 4, all pupils will undertake the MTC (multiplication timetable check). Please see the links below for further support and information.
A new and exciting CUSP curriculum for science and some foundation subjects has been introduced across the school and Y4 will learn about a whole host of wonderful and exciting topics.
PE- Crew members must come to school in the agreed school PE kit. Our indoor PE session is on Monday and the outdoor lesson is on Thursday.
